Too easy.........

This baby is way too easy! If she wasn't cute enough to just sit and look at, she'd be a little boring. :)

She eats all day every two and a half to three hours and after her midnight feeding, she sleeps until about 4:30...wakes for a bottle and diaper change, then goes back to sleep until about 9. After that she resumes her normal schedule of eating about every third hour. She eats about 2.5 ounces at her daytime feedings and a full 3 at the night feedings. Do you guys think we should we be waking her? Liz's grandmother sure does; she made a big deal of it while she was here yesterday.

And.........she hardly ever cries. She will cry when hungry, but only if we didn't respond fast enough to her more subtle cues, which we usually do. She also doesn't like to be washed much. Other than that, we never hear her cry; she's so mellow. Hopefully, she'll stay this way.

We are so in love with this child!! She is an absolute joy, and watching Cylie with her is amazing. She loves her so much and hasn't really shown any jealousy yet. She just wants to hold her; she really wants to pick her up so she'll go to her and make her help sign so we will come and help her. It's adorable.

Definitely don't wake her!! It sounds like she's on the perfect routine, one that many people will be jealous of! As she gets more alert, she will choose to be awake for longer periods, but you really shouldn't expect more than 45 minute stretches of awake time for months. My wife takes care of preemie twins and they're are 5mos (2mos corrected) now and only able to stay awake for an hour, maybe 90 min... They also started sleeping through the night about a month ago, they go down at 6:30 and wake at 6am for a feed, then sleep again til 8:30 or so. Sleep is when the body releases growth hormone, when the brain powers up, and when you get to breathe, do laundry, eat, shower, and take pictures of adorable sleeping baby! If you are concerned about her food intake, you can probalby arrange with your pediatrician to visit the office for weigh-ins without co-pay, even as much as three times a week since she was early.
My wife blogs about her days with her little munchkins: http://nannyviewfinder.blogspot.com/
Also, you can read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (or something like that). He talks all about how important sleep is.
Good luck, it sounds like you're already doing a wonderful job! Trust yourself! You can do it!!!

Her schedule and demeanor sound very much like Ethan and now at 10 months he is still just as pleasant. I hope she stays that way for you, it really is such a blessing. My vote, don't wake her to eat, her body will do that when it's ready.

She sounds just wonderful. I say don't wake her too. As long as she is gaining weight than she is obviously getting enough food. They told us that we didn't have to wake him in the night, and we didn't. We would rather wake him in the day so he knew it was wake time. He was sleeping all through the night at 2 months old!

I agree with the above post. Don't wake her!! At least for the most part. I would say that as long as she is still considered small that you shouldn't let her go more than 4 hours without a feeding but new babies do most of their growing when they are sleeping. If she is only sleeping 2 hours between feeds then she is using almost as many calories as she is taking in and won't gain much weight. When I worked NICU all of our babies were fed every 3 hours or every 4 hours. If they woke early we would give them something but tried to avoid the snacking as they weren't getting good growing time. Glad that she is doing so well and what a wonderful baby she sounds like.

Hardly ever cries....damn you. LOL

The nurses at the hospital told us to wake the baby and feed every 3 hours. Most of our friends with perfectly healthy children told us to never wake a sleeping baby. It took us no time at all to realize we should let him sleep and he'd wake when he was hungry.

What they told *us* at the hospital was wake her to eat during the day, but not at night. Made sense to me.
